Decisions, Decisions…

I’m in a quandary and need your help deciding which skirt to cast on first. Yes, I already have eight skirts, but I find I wear them everyday, especially when the weather is cool. Besides, skirts are much easier to fit and knit than sweaters so they’ve become my go-to projects when I’m traveling (which is a lot of the time!).

On the left is Blue Moon Socks That Rock in the colorway Antequated System. I plan to use this yarn for a repeat of my Putting On The Pleats skirt — there’s too much going on colorwise to add any decorative stitch pattern.

This will be a relative quick knit for me because once I get the gauge of 7.5 stitches/inch, all I have to do is follow the existing pattern.

On the right is Shibui Pebble and Cima, both in the Fjord colorway. Because the fabric will be a uniform color, I can add a stitch pattern to the pleats, as for Take-Two Skirt, Lacy Pleats, or Traveling Pleats, or add a stitch pattern to the gores, as for Tavia.

Either way, this skirt will take longer to complete because I’ll have to design a new pattern.

Please help me decide by responding to this post with your vote! Respond by midnight November 4, and I’ll enter your name in a drawing for a free skirt pattern.

  1. Both are beautiful. I would cast on the Socks That Rock because itโ€™s a perfect color way for autumn and you could wear it right away. The luscious blues would be great in deep winter.

  2. Well, I’ll vote for the Shibui. The texture of those skeins is delectable, and the ability to add a stitch design to the pattern will make it interesting. Yes, it will take longer, but then you have a project ready to take with you on several trips.

I’m curious, Ann: do you find it best to let a skirt ‘rest’ several days after wearing it? I’m remembering being told to wear a pair of wool pants only once each week so that they could hang back into shape before being worn again.

  3. I”m voting for the Socks That Rock because I can’t wait to see how it looks. Very soon I’ll be be starting my own Ann Budd skirt and yours will be additional inspiration for me. I’ve been wondering about using a yarn like Socks That Rock.

  4. Socks that Rock would get my vote! Love the blue, too, but I go for the immediate in my own work. You have all winter to do the blue.
Knit a skirt……could I do it?? Needs less fitting than a sweater? Hmm. Big question: could my aging figure fit with a knit skirt????
Maybe I need to buy your pattern, & then decide.
Good luck, whichever way you go with your next skirt!

  5. I vote for the Shibui knits. Colors are beautiful. Yarns are beautiful. My world is full of Autumn colors right now. The blues are a nice contrast and make me smile. Joy in knitting.

  6. Both colorways look delicious. However, I vote for the Lacy Pleats in Shibui. I think you are almost done with the traveling this year and it will be a more interesting knit for home. I also would like to see this skirt in Shibui.

  7. I am going to vote for Traveling Pleats with the Shibui. Shibui is all about the fabric, so I think that Traveling pleats with its subtle texture will look smashing!

  8. Very hard decision! Both yarns are stunning and all of l the skirt patterns gorgeous. That being said, I would cast on the Putting on the Pleats first since the colorway in the socks that rock is spot on for Autumn/Early Winter. Also, since you mentioned that the putting on the pleats pattern will go faster you are more likely to finish the skirt and be wearing it while it is still Autumn/Early Winter. In any event, can’t wait to see both skirts when finished. They will be a great addition to your skirt wardrobe! Happy Knitting xo

  9. Voting for the Shibui blues for 2 reasons: I love the blues and (selfishly) would love another skirt pattern! ๐Ÿ˜‰ (And for a little butt-splintering, fence-sitting: would also like to see the Socks that Rock knit into a skirt!) It’s a win either way! (I’ve already knit the Take 2 skirt and Lacy Pleats is up next, for me!)

  11. I love the Socks that Rock but my vote is for the blue! I can’t wait to see what you create with that.

  12. So hard to decide, I love the Socks that Rock yarn color but to have the came of a new Ann Bud skirt pattern is also enticing! Okay, the colorway wins out this time but watch out the next!

  13. I love the Socks that Rock totally, however, after looking at the patterns the blue would look stunning in the Traveling Pleats, I can see myself twirling in that skirt like I did in the dark ages of the 60s and 70s when I was a little girl!

  14. Socks that Rock. When traveling, it will be much easier to do a pattern you know. I just returned from a three week trip. That was my experience.

  15. I would go with the blue, because I think the Socks that Rock will pool and leave you unhappy with the result.

  16. Voting for Blue Moon Socks That Rock in the colorway Antequated System. The yarn is springy and soft squishable. Love the colorway.

  17. I like the blue (Shibui). I am picturing it in a lace pattern with a contrasting bright color underneath, either a lining or a slip. Actually, a slip/ lining that could be changed depending on my mood or where I am going really appeals to me.

  18. Go for the easy knit with that sumptuous green Ann! Then write the new pattern as you can think about it while you doing the easy knit! Would love to try one of your skirt patterns. Such lovely things they are….

  19. The blue Shibui gets my vote because I love the blue and think it would be beautiful with a stitch pattern. I’ve never tried a skirt because I thought it would be too hard to keep it from losing its shape, but you show that it can be done.

  20. Love, love, love the Shibui blues. You need to make a skirt with those colours, or maybe I need to, but you lead the way! I’ve never tried knitting a skirt, scared of the waistband, I can’t sew at all. Maybe I’ll get tips from you later this week……see you in Edmonton.

  21. I love them both, but I would love to see what the Shibui becomes! How interesting to pair them both (pebble and cimi) together in a skirt…

  22. I love both but I really love the colors in the Blue Moon Socks That Rock in Antequated System. You need to cast on both!!

  23. I love the Antequated System colorway. I vote for Putting on the Pleats with the Blue Moon Socks that Rock!

  24. I love the colors in the Blue Moon, they feel rich and so suited to the current season. I hope you post pictures when completed. Thanks
