Mini Snowflake Tams

These festive miniature tams, measuring just 2 3/4″ (7 cm) in diameter, make adorable garlands and are ideal for leftover bits of sock (fingering weight) yarn. They require just 5 grams of yarn—4 grams of the background color and about 1 gram of the contrast color.

Each tam is worked on double-pointed needles, beginning with a ribbed brim at the base, ending with gathered stitches at the top, and decorated with a stranded snowflake in between. Charts are provided for working a light snowflake against a dark background as well as a dark snowflake against a light background.

String them on perle cotton and drape them around a tree, or over a fireplace, door, or window. Be forewarned—mini tam knitting can be addictive!
