Countdown

We’re rapidly approaching my favorite day of the year–the day after the shortest day of the year. This year the winter solstice is Tuesday, December 22. On Wednesday, December 23, the Earth’s rotation will begin to tilt the northern hemisphere incrementally closer to the sun and each day will be a bit longer (until the summer solstice in June, of course, when the tables get turned).

In celebration of the end of the “darkness,” I’m holding a raffle. Tell me which of my books you’d like (visit http://www.annbuddknits.com/books/ for the details) and I’ll enter you in a drawing.

bookshelfOn Wednesday, when those of us in the northern hemisphere finally get a little more light each day, I’ll post the winner.

The fine print: New Directions in Sock Knitting is not eligible because it isn’t available yet. You’ll get a chance for that book later.

  11. My husband also always counts down to the time when days start getting longer. In his honor, I’d like to add your Sock Knitting Master Class book to my collection. I have a stash of sock yarn just waiting for me to gather the courage to actually knit some socks for him!

  12. I would love to have the knitted gifts book! And then I would have to buy the top down sweater book too!

  13. I thought I was the only one who watched the lengthening days. Use an app called Sunrise sunset. Look at it everyday. I already have and use all these wonderful books by you. A bit of a fan!!!

  14. It’s snowing here again in NE Washington state and I’ve had to plow twice in the last four days – time that could be better spent knitting!
Choosing a book is a difficult decision (although I already own several Ann Budd books) because I lust after books about as much as I do yarn.
I think I’d go for the Lace Style though, as I’m presently intrigued by lace knitting.
Thanks, Ann for your generous give-away. Day after solstice, indeed!

  15. I’ve just returned from sending off the last of my cards and my two boxes back east, both with yarn goodies and/or knitted things wrapped in yarn. I can now relax and enjoy…something.

  21. I would love the Handy book of Patterns. I am Finnish/Latvian and every year on the winter solstice we have a big fire ( I live in a rural area) with friends. for the summer solstice we try to find an old wooden boat to burn. Lots of fun. thanks for offering up the raffle. Always fun to enter.

  22. I use your Knitter’s Book of Patterns and two other books. I’d love to knit a few of patterns in the Best of Interweave Knits. I just wish I could knit as fast as others, so that all these lovely patterns turn into 3D items!

  23. I use several of your books regularly–especially 25 Favorite Socks– but don’t own Sock Knitting Master Class so I think that would be THE ONE. Very hard to make a choice, though! Thank you.

  24. How awesome! I think we should stop turning the clocks back. I would love to own a copy of The Knitter’s Handy Book of Top-Down Sweaters. I hate seaming knits together.

  25. Hey Ann, There is one or your Books that I still don’t have, outside of “New Directions in Sock Knitting”. I have been looking for awhile…”Knitted Gifts”. With that, and of course your new book, which I have already left notes all over the house, coming right out and telling the Hubby what I want. I’m very Hopeful! Beside you, Kate Davis is the other Knitting Icon, LOL, that I talk about all the time. He’ll fall asleep remembering ….”Annnnn Buddddddd,…the bookkkkkkk…the bookkkkkkkk! I would be absolutely great to have, “Ann Budd’s
Definitive Library on Knitting”!!! Wow, that actually sound catchy!
    Have a Wonderful Holiday!

  29. The Knitter’s Handy Book of Top Down Sweaters is on my wish list. It is one of the few that I don’t already own. They are all so informative and easy to read and understand. Thank you for this opportunity.

  37. I love the thought of longer days and more sunlight too! All great books but would love Scarf Style 2. Thank you.

  38. I would love your top down sweater book. My favorite day is also Dec 22 this year for a different reason – I like cold, dark days! Makes one want to settle in and knit! Happy Holidays!

  39. Definitely would have to pick the top down sweater book! I love your Getting Started Knitting Socks and Sock Knitting Master Class, but it’s time for me to move on to something more than socks and scarves. It looks like an amazing resource 🙂

  40. I too look forward to the days getting longer and that is reason to celebrate. I love all of your books that I have, but don’t have Top Down Sweaters. That would be a great addition to my collection of knitting books. Thank you for thinking of us.
