Winter Solstice

Tomorrow (Saturday, December 21) marks one of my favorite days of the year — the winter solstice. It means that each day will finally get longer, if only infinitesimally. It means that even though we still have months of cold and snow ahead of us, there will be more sunlight. That’s good news for those of us knitting with dark yarns.

To celebrate, I’d like to give away a book. Respond to this post by midnight Saturday (the darkest of the darkest days) and tell me which of my physical books (sorry, digital books are not eligible) you’d like. I’ll use a random-number generator to choose a winner from the responses.

There’s nothing better than a good knitting project to brighten up a cold, dark day!

  1. I would love to win the Getting Started Knitting Socks! I can’t believe don’t have this in my library already. Thanks Ann!!

  2. I love winter solstice! I do own most of your books and use them often. For some reason I don’t have “The Knitters Handy Book Of Patterns” thank-you for this chance to win it.

  3. Wow, it’s so hard when everyone of the books on your shelf has an important place in the Knitter’s Library. I would have to go with “Simple Style”. At this point that is the only one of the STYLE books I don’t have. Having the complete group would be wonderful. P.S. hope your Bird troubles are solved, for awhile anyway!:)

  4. I would love the Knitting Sweaters from the top down book. I have so many of your others. Thank you and happy solstice!

  5. I`m readly for days to start getting longer too. I would like Cast on Bind Off. I hope you are having a wonderful holiday season.

  6. I agree!!! I tell everyone, it may be colder during this time of year but we get a minute extra of sunlight each day!! I have 2 of your books, and browsing through, I would truly benefit from “The Knitters Handy Book of Patterns”. I think I buy more knitting books and magazines than I do yarn. A ‘freebie’ would be fabulous. :-D.

  7. Handy Book of Sweater Patterns
Would be the perfect gift as knitting sweaters for me
Is my Passion at the moment

Wishing you and yours a Merry Christmas
    Hugs

  8. I am surprised by how many of your books I have and use routinely! Would love the top down Sweater book as I go out of my way to avoid seaming. And I agree– there is some joy in knowing that the sun will rise a bit earlier every day.

I have the E-Book version of The Knitter’s Handy Book of Top-Down Sweaters . I love it and have made a few of the sweaters in it as well as using it as a resource for techniques and methods when knitting other items. It is handy to have it on my KOBO when in the car and at the beach. However, I would prefer to have the “real” book version when sitting in my knitting chair at home. In the real book the pictures will be in colour and I can make notes and comments in the margins. It is the first e-book version I have purchased for knitting and I have decided that I prefer having my knitting books be “real” books.
I have knitting books that are over 100 years old that belonged to long ago relatives. I doubt that the patterns and books on my KOBO or my laptop will still be there for my decendants.
I would like The Knitter’s Handy Book of Top-Down Sweaters.

  10. Hmmmm. Since I already have quite a few I narrowed it down to “Top Down Sweaters”. Hope I win it. Karen Hutchinson

  31. I’d love to win The Knitter’s Handy Book of Top-Down Sweaters. I hope it will bring me as much luck as Getting Started Knitting Socks did. Happy holidays!

  32. I have gone to several of your books for basic ideas/guidelines, particularly on sweaters. One that I haven’t checked out yet and would love is The Knitters Handy Book of Top Down Sweaters. Like others have mentioned, I prefer to avoid seaming, though I have done it when I like a particular pattern. Also, we’re having sunshine here today after snow and it is so very nice to see.

  33. Happy Solstice Ann!

    Thanks for the opportunity. 🙂
    Karen
